The PLS type gear units are designed on planetary principle with co-axial input and output shafts to drive the offshore patrol vessel with CP propeller, optimizing the space requirement of the main propulsion.With a capacity range of 1,500 kW to 10,000 kW and reduction ratios of 1.5 to 4.8, they meet all known requirements of fast vessels.

These gear units have-

low weight-power ratio, thereby increasing the ship’s pay load

excellent anti-shock properties due to low gear unit mass

cushioned speed changing processes allowing torque to be adapted to engine characteristics

high efficency as a result of having been designed as a planetary gear unit and due to automatic separation of discs of multi-disc clutch even if installed in inclined position, and are compact, thereby allowing favourable design of engine room.

a clutch actuating hydroneumatic system which is designed for gradual engagement. This actuating system and the forced lubrication system are provided with local and remote monitoring/control facilities, interlocaking various failure modes.
